Viv' Glass

Post  Jamiioo on January 3rd 2011, 10:11 am

Im going to B&Q to get viv materials tomorrow, or something to convert! But i just wondered...where do you peoples (who have build vivs/convers) get your glass? i think the glass slidey bit will confuse me the most eh?!

I think i would prefer glass over mesh (would add spare vents) unsure

from years of experience mesh is miles better than glass
but if you really want glass try your local reptile shop, or ask them if they know where to get glass as you need it to have rounded edges to you or hoggy doesnt get cut, you can also get the tracking from rep shops

or just any normal glaziers and tell them what you want it for - costs a little extra to have the edges rounded but it really is worth it!!!

Ahhh ok thanks Smile Im not really sure how mesh would work though. How would you open and close it? Would i have to make a lid? unsure And how would it fix into place (other than a staple gun, i dont have one sad) Sorry if they are silly questions, have no idea about mesh lol

you make a wooden frame - I did staple gun my mesh but I think some have used hot glue and covered it also with beading? hang the doors with hinges then screw to the viv and attach locks to secure - sounds more difficult than it is

make 2 door frames on hinges and tac the mesh around the inside of the frame, then if you want put some beading over the edge to cover it

I have 3 viv's (from Faith) that have mesh doors that open outwards and one viv exotic viv with glass doors. I find the mesh doors easier to gain access to the viv and they don't need cleaning when noses and pooee paws have been put against them

Ohhh, i think i may have seen pics of that! Im away to have a look at the envionmental enrichment thread & find some to have a look at lau

Sorry bout all the questions lol, what are the advantages of mesh over glass? Is it mainly airflow/circulation? And where buy could i buy it if i do use it (apart from ebay, im not on there :wh : ) lol

Seems i have some thread hunting to do, loads of questions there, i did find the viv-building guide on RFUK, which looks not too bad. Im sure i seen one on here before, but i cant find it...Oft!

I find glass holds in smell more

mesh doors are quieter to open and shut

can get cold spots behind glass if not heated right

I did have glass at one point - I took it all out after a few weeks lau I just found you can smell the amonia in their pee a lot more and plus I despise cleaning glass!!!

just dont buy white mesh!!!!!!! I always get it from ebay - could always send someone the money for them to buy off ebay and get it sent to you?

Height 18 inch (roughly zoozone sized) got this priced and im surprized how cheap it is for wood :O
